Remote web application developer

Here at DataCapture we specialise in applying computing knowledge to the world around us. We're looking for someone to help us create a web platform which we'll use to develop cutting edge real-time web applications.

When you start with us we don't expect you to know everything - we'll give you training in the latest technologies, such as React/Webpack, Svelte/Vite, git and more - but we do expect you to be hungry to learn. Front-end and back-end work is available so you can concentrate on what suits you best. This job is fully remote, although we keep in close touch with other team members throughout the day.

Areas we work in include nuclear waste tracking, power generation monitoring and building monitoring systems. A recent job involved developing a system to monitor over £18M of lithium ion batteries being used to store power from a solar farm. The system reads over 23,000 data points every second, logging over 2 billion values a day to a relational database. Currently we're developing a WYSIWYG editor to visually develop screens using objects which change in real time in response to data sent by the server. We're also building our own library of front-end widgets rather than using anything off the shelf.

We're looking for people who love working in the space where high technology interfaces with the real world. Whilst technical ability is a must, we're particularly looking for someone to impress us with their keenness and enthusiasm. In our experience this means someone who is interested enough in how things work to have dug into Linux, maybe with a Raspberry Pi, or has dabbled in microcontrollers such as Arduino. They'll have plenty of their own code to show us.

If working on systems which have an impact in the real world appeals, please get in touch for a chat so you can demonstrate your own enthusiasm and keenness to us. Please note you will need to be able to pass UK government SC security vetting, which generally means living in the UK for at least 5 years.
